Alps Mountaineering Zephyr 3 Tent Review

In many cases, people go camping when it’s hot and dry in the mountains. I also like it if the weather is not harsh. I have had pretty bad experiences with extreme weather when I was just new to hiking. Nevertheless, with a good tent you will be able to counter any extreme climatic conditions and still have a great time. Last summer I went camping with one of my workmates who happens to be also my brother in-law. I chose the Alps Mountaineering Zephyr 3 because it is quite versatile with helpful features that can always make your hiking experiences quite memorable. Having said this, there are many things that made me like this tent including the quality of material used to make the tent.

There are a lot of features that make this particular tent stand out. The free standing 2-pole design will blow your mind away. It is this particular tent a great choice for both the seasoned and new hiker. I've been hiking and camping for the past 7 years, whereas my brother in-law was out in the wild for the very first time in his entire life. In every sense, I had to choose a tent that blends professional workmanship and simplicity-and so Alps Mountaineering Zephyr 3 seemed an ideal choice. It is equally important to note that with this tent, you will enjoy easy installation procedures that can always save you time. It comes with pole clips that are pretty simple to use-no hassling whatsoever. It took us very few minutes to pitch tent and this is something that you will always love about it.

The factory sealed fly is a plus for any backpacker who is out there and not sure about the weather. If you are hiking and not sure on what type of ground you’ll pitch your tent, you may consider Alps Mountaineering Zephyr 3 because it offers better floor seams for extreme weather. Luckily, we were camping on a relatively dry ground so we never had issues with soggy grounds. You will never have issues with ventilation at all. The entire wall is made of high-quality wire mesh, and this is always beneficial for hikers camping in areas that are prone to hot temperatures. I was delighted that the tent comes with extra large zippers for the vestibule and doors. These made it pretty easy for use to store our gear, apparel, and other personal effects we had carried along.

What makes Alps Mountaineering Zephyr 3 top choice

I really liked the weatherproof fly buckles that offer better weather protection, and the same time they are easy to adjust to meet your unique needs. If pole diameter is anything to by, then definitely this will a better choice as it offers users a diameter of 8.5. Its free standing nature makes it pretty easy for it withstand strong winds, while the 40sq ft tent area is big enough to accommodate at least 3 people.

The vestibule depth of 28”, a center height of 3’5, and base size of 6’2x 7’5 is quite reliable for backpackers as well as hikers. I have so much praise for this tent because of these unique features. Importantly, it comes at a competitive price and you can as well go for your favorite color. Last but not least, hot weather will never be a problem at all.

The one thing that I liked about this tent is that although the walls are made of wire mesh, your privacy is never compromised. Therefore, if you are in a group, you will never have to worry about someone peeping in your tent. Furthermore, the materials are quite durable and so longevity is always guaranteed at any given time.

The downside

While I really liked the tent design, my brother in-law never had any nice words for Alps Mountaineering Zephyr 3. I strongly believe there was a matter of likes and preferences and he preferred other designs to this particular one. Also, some people who have used it in relatively cold weather have really given it low rating. In this case, I can defend the manufacturers because they advice to use it in hit dry weather and not the other way round.

The alignment of the holes on the “spreader bar” is not perfect, and it forces you to use some extra energy to get everything right. All in all, it is a tent that can offer you high utility value in hot climate compared to the others that fall in the same range.
