Going to Balanga, Bataan, you'll already know how much history is in this place. The names alone suggest significant Spanish influence and the streets and buildings that stand are well-inspired areas of the old Spanish time. It's like a blast from the past. Even the hotel we went to was seemingly part of the old Spanish rule – The Plaza Hotel Bataan.
The Hotel looks exactly like a beautiful backdrop of the park right in front of it—the Plaza Mayor de Ciudad de Balanga. It's hard to miss because The Plaza Hotel is right beside the City Hall, across the 18-century old Balanga Cathedral, and found at the heart of the City, itself. It's a strategic location, and even if it is a busy area, it wasn't noisy at all—at least for us. It may be a high-end hotel, but we got a super awesome deal online that I just can't help but to book it. I'd love to stay in an expensive hotel for once but at the price of a budget hotel room. And I got a great deal, so I'm so happy with this choice, really, since we are practically near every location near every place you can think of going to in Balanga, Bataan.
The lobby was very modern, contrary to the Spanish colonial facade of the hotel. Simple and very modernistic, the staff welcomes you with great smiles. It is very efficient for us to check-in. They checked us in an instant and ushered us to our room. While we were on our way to our room, we entered a very cozy feeling hallway. The carpet was beautiful, and I can see that the carpet was clean and not dusty, as most hotels have. They have great fixtures, and the lighting was pretty adequate to give the guests a more relaxing feeling as we go to our rooms. I'm a fan of the chandeliers, by the way. Anyway, I was pretty excited since I was able to get about 71% off the original price of an Executive Room.
Voila! 'Pretty impressive,' was what I thought the moment I entered the room. Our room was spacious, and a queen-sized bed was nicely resting in the middle of the room. The bed was comfortable and wide enough for the three of us. I did have to ask for extra pillows though because we only got a pair and we were grateful enough that it came in an instant. Seriously, it was pretty quick because it came just within five minutes of asking for it.
Our room had a table and single sofas, a full desk, a huge LCD cable TV, a mini fridge, and also a security safe. Anyway, I love that this room is well-equipped. We have a full coffee set, and even complimentary packets of coffee, sugar, and creamer. Apparently, though, in The Plaza Hotel, the room rates also depend on the view. Since we got the discounted room, we got the view of the back alley. Not a nice view really, you can just see the nearby buildings behind the hotel and a bustling street down below. Even if it is a kind of busy street, the thick curtains add another layer of soundproofing. It helps minimize the noise outside.
The bathroom was a delight too. It wasn't spacious but roomy. The room comes with a bathtub and a shower, separately. It also comes with a handy bidet. I love that it's super clean. And since it's just a pretty recently opened hotel, almost everything is still relatively new. They also give a full set of toiletries, even a small handy nail set.
The hotel has an in-house restaurant called Cafe Kyoto. It's a full-on Japanese restaurant with Japanese rates too. I find the food here very expensive. But since we have a complimentary breakfast, we were given a breakfast set to choose from. They have two main choices, Filipino breakfast, or Japanese breakfast. So, we decided to go for both. We took the Tonkatsu Set and another Filipino breakfast set with fish and fried rice. I'm also happy that my son also got his complimentary breakfast and he went for noodles. The food was good and presented well. Since it's a high-end city hotel, I guess, they do their best to meet your expectations, and I loved my choice. The food was filling—for me. But I did wish that they have a buffet so you can try anything you want. Anyway, when you get hungry, you can quickly go down the hotel, and there are a lot of restaurants and fast food nearby.
The hotel was a great stay for us. With a great deal at an expensive hotel, I'm happy I looked around and found this discount. Our experience in Bataan was well met with a great breakfast to relish on a great night's sleep that refreshed us for another day to go around. We will surely go back here if I have another chance to book at a great deal.
