Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia: Downbelow Adventure Lodge Review

Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia Downbelow Adventure Lodge Review

Wyatt Maktrav in Downbelow Adventure Lodge Lobby. Feeling at home!

When I was looking for a tour provider for our Mt. Kinabalu hike, I came across Downbelow Marine and Wildlife Adventures. I sent them an email and their staff told me that they also have a lodge in the city. Since we we've booked our tours with Downbelow Adventures, I've also decided to get our accommodation with them - and I'm glad I did!

Arrival in Kota Kinabalu International Airport

Our accommodation in Downbelow Adventure Lodge includes airport pickup. Upon arrival in Kota Kinabalu International Airport, I excitedly looked for someone outside holding a paper with my name on it. Thankfully, our driver and the guide for the city tour are already there waiting for us. We had the city tour first and they dropped us on Downbelow Adventure Lodge afterwards.

Downbelow Adventure Lodge Location

Downbelow Adventure Lodge is located conveniently in KK Times Square. One of the many things we loved about the lodge is that it is close to different shops, restaurants, and mall. There is a 7-eleven downstairs so you don't have to worry if you need to buy anything. The Imago Mall is very near to the lodge as well, just a 2-minute walk. Awesome right? It is also not too far from the airport. We took an Uber ride from the lodge to the airport for just a 12-minute drive.

The Rooms in Downbelow Adventure Lodge

There are different rooms in Downbelow Adventure Lodge. You can choose from private rooms with own toilet and bath, or the triple/quad sharing room with bunk beds and communal bathroom. Whichever you choose, I assure you that all rooms are really clean, tidy, and air-conditioned. The beds have latex mattresses so you'll surely have a good rest.

Lobby and Pantry

The very first thing I noticed upon entering Downbelow's lobby is the cleanliness of the place. You'll be ashamed if you won't take off your slippers or shoes. Hahaha! Seriously, we walked around the lodge barefoot! The lobby is our baby Wyatt Maktrav's favorite place there because he can play and watch on the television. There is also unlimited instant coffee, tea, and milo in the pantry. What else can you ask for? Oh! There's a free wi-fi connection in the lodge and it's pretty fast too! We were able to work online during our stay in Downbelow Adventure Lodge.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay in Downbelow Adventure Lodge. The staffs are friendly and accommodating especially the husband and wife tandem Chris and Cora. It became our home for 5 days and 4 nights after our hike in Mt. Kinabalu and we definitely want to go back there. Highly recommended!
