Mount Batulao starts of at the Evercrest Golf Course in Nasugbu, Batangas. This is one of the more popular day hikes in the country. Hikers will pass through beautiful green slopes and open trails. You will reach a fork where the trail divides itself into two paths. Before that, you will see a hut, called the “Mini Stop” where you can rest for a while and buy buko juice. The summit features beautiful view of Cavite and Batangas, with rocky landscapes and green scenery. Also, there are beautiful rock formations, which add to the already spectacular view.

To reach the summit, these are two paths climbers may choose from:

Old Trail

Located in the eastern part of the mountain, the old trail enters the forest and continues on until campsite. These are stations where you may stop and rest for a while. When you reach the first campsite from old trail, expect the slopes to be steeper and more challenging after that. Some parts have ropes and you need to be very extra careful.

New Trail

The new trail, on the other hand, is located at the western part. Hikers will pass through several hills, making the trek much more tiring as you go up and down those slopes. As you continue on these hills, you will eventually reach a forest. Decide whether you want to enter it or go left and continue down the grassy slopes. However, the forest will also lead you to grassy landscapes after some time. Once you reach the part where the path cuts through two rocks, go right for the summit.

Remember that before you enter the old and new trail, there are respective registration areas where you have to pay fees. There are also local guides available at the start of your trek should you want to hire one. As for the weather, it is windy up in the mountain but expect it to get hot, especially on the open trails. But, all in all, this is a nice, enjoyable day hike you definitely shouldn’t miss!

How to Get There

It’s important to plan your trip in advance to make sure you know exactly what to do and where to go on the day itself. Here are some ways to get to your destination:

(Nasugbu, Batangas – Evercrest Golf Course – Jump off point)

It is fairly easy to get to the jump-off point. Beginning from Nasugbu, Batangas, proceed to the Evercrest Golf Course where the jump off point is located. You may opt to take a tricycle or a coastal bus to get to the golf course. There is no need to register prior to the climb. However, there are specific registration points within the trails before you are allowed to reach the summit.

After your hike, you may have a side trip to Tagaytay. There are a lot of tourist attractions there, so you may still roam around if you still have strength. Otherwise, you may just have a taste of bulalo in Nasugbu, Batangas.
