Osmeña Peak

Osmeña Peak is located in Mantalongon, Dalaguete. It is a part of the Mantalongon mountain range and is considered the highest point in Cebu. It is also known as the “Vegetable Basket” or the “Little Baguio of Cebu” because of the various vegetable farms within the area. It is common to pass by locals farming as you trek up the peak. The summit itself offers a beautiful view of nature. Jagged hills fill your view and you immediately feel one with nature. All around you are green slopes and brown patches of soil make up the wonderful scenery.

Just a quick reminder to check the weather before you start your climb up Osmeña Peak though! The trails are known to get muddy and slippery especially on the downhill terrains. But this easy trail is an enjoyable one for both beginners and experienced climbers alike. Next time you’re in the Visayan region, make sure to drop by this trail!

Osmeña Peak

Traditional Trail

Difficulty: Easy

Days needed to complete hike: 1 day

Average hike duration to reach summit (From jump-off point): 30 mins to 1 hour

Major jump-off point: Mantalongon Market, Dalaguete, Cebu

Osmeña Peak can actually be finished in a day hike. From the foot of the trail, it only takes around 20 minutes to an hour to reach the highest point. Hikers will be passing through vegetable farms and rocky slopes with a few water sources along the path. The peak itself offers a fantastic view of what seems like hundreds of jagged slopes spreading out for miles before converging with the blue waters. It is often compared to the views of the Chocolate hills because of the many brown and green peaks that greet successful climbers. An important thing to note is that the peak is privately owned, which is taken care of by someone who collects fees from the hikers. As for the campsite, there is space available a few meters from the summit where campers may rest for a while.

Traverse to Kawasan Falls

Difficulty: Easy

Days needed to complete hike: 1 to 2 days

Average hike duration to reach summit (From jump-off point): 30 mins to 1 hour

Starting point: Mantalongon Market, Dalaguete, Cebu

Ending point: Brgy. Matutinao, Badian, Cebu

Another option for hikers on this trail would be to continue a traverse to Kawasan Falls. From Osmeña Peak, start your descent from the summit. Be careful because the downhill terrain may get muddy and slippery. Along the way, you’ll meet several locals as you pass through their farmlands and small communities. There are also parts where you enter greener scenery as clumps of trees show up here and there.

Once you reach the falls, take the opportunity to go swimming in the refreshing waters or lounge by small bamboo rafts available for rent! It features three levels of different activities. You can find restaurants and stores nearby. After you’ve had your fill of fun, start your descent and expect to be back to civilization before dinner.

How to Get There

It’s important to plan your trip in advance to make sure you know exactly what to do and where to go on the day itself. Here are some ways to get to your destination:

Osmeña Peak

(Cebu City – Barangay Mantalongon – Jump off point)

From Cebu City, you may choose between taking a bus or a mini bus. The bus travels from the South Bus Terminal and is bound for either Oslob or Bato. Get off at the Dalaguete junction and hire a motorcycle or a “habal habal” to help you proceed to the jump-off point in Barangay Mantalogon. On the other hand, the mini bus offers a more direct route for hikers. From the Carbon Market in Cebu, the mini bus will send you directly to Mantalogon Market. From the market, you may proceed to the jump-off point to start your trek!

Just don’t forget to drop by the Barangay hall for a quick registration of your hike. Also, be reminded that the caretaker of the campsite will collect a 20-peso fee as you reach the summit. There are several children and teens scattered around that will offer their services as a guide.
