Pico de Loro is a part of the Mount Palay-Palay mountain range. Located in Nasugbu, Batangas, this day hike is one of the more popular ones for people in Manila. The monolith called Parrot’s Beak is the main attraction for this hike. But mountain climbers should still be on the lookout for other surprises along the way. Hikers should expect beautiful forests and even sightings of rare animals along the path.
The trail has adequate shade to protect you from the sun. But on extremely hot days, be sure to stay hydrated as you go on your journey. There are places to restock on water supply along the way. Also, there are other places you may opt to visit while in the area. So make sure to do enough research to make the most out of this climb!

The hike up Pico de Loro is a relatively easy one. Even as a relaxing day hike, the views on this trail can compete amongst major climbs. The Parrot’s Beak got its name from the likeness of the rock formation to parrot. Hikers may climb up this but be sure to exercise extreme caution! This is only recommended to experienced mountain climbers. Bring your own ropes to make sure everything is strong and reliable.
It is important to note that hikers are only allowed to use the new trail as of the moment. This passes through Base Camp 1 to Alibangbang to the steepest slope in the new trail. There is a campsite nearby to rest for a while before you continue your trek up the summit.
When descending the mountain, the options are to either use the trail by Magnetic Hill or the one by Nasugbu, Ternate Highway. Either way, arrange a jeepney to pick you up by the end of the day!
It’s important to plan your trip in advance to make sure you know exactly what to do and where to go on the day itself. Here are some ways to get to your destination:
From the Coastal Mall Terminal, ride a bus to Ternate, Cavite. From there, get a tricycle to send you to the DENR station in Magnetic Hill. Settle registration fees and climbing permits there. You may also opt to hire local guides. If coming from Manila, a public bus can easily take you to Pico de Loro. Another option is to take a private vehicle. This is much more convenient, considering it is only a day hike. You may park your car in the DENR Station.
